Bad At Blogging and Other Things September 24, 2010

I’m officially bad at blogging, not because I don’t like to write ( I really do) or because I don’t like keeping in contact (bad at that too) but because I always feel like I need to write something profound or worthy of reading by another human being.  Most days my life feels less than interesting (in large part due to the fact that I’m covered in spit up and have stopped noticing). Wednesday nights and Tuesday mornings are interesting, as both include one of my favorite things, which is leading a group of high school girls through the Bible as we grow to know Jesus more.  Talking with Caleb about how God’s working and moving is interesting, and I also like helping him plan for youth events when I can.  Nowadays, however, my role is limited due to the growing demands of my little baby love (already today he’s rolled to and munched on both the curtains AND my favorite shoes).  Though being home with the little man is an absolute joy, it doesn’t always make for the most interesting conversation topics.  Well meaning inquirer:  “What’s new?”  Me:  (excited voice) “Corban can do this thing with his tongue now!”  See what I mean?  Only our parents get excited about this kind of thing (and for that, I am truly grateful!  I think it’s the mark of wonderful Grandparents).

I’m also bad at it because I’m not sure the purpose of this blog.  I originally started it to chronicle our first year of marriage (come and gone).  It’s also been a way for me to work through some things I’ve been thinking about and mulling over.  It also functions as a way of communicating what’s happening in ministry on the North Shore with those we love, our faithful supporters, both family and friends.  Should I share thoughts and struggles, things I’m thinking about, daily routines, what we do with the youth group every week, more about our family or more about our students?  I’m a people-pleaser to the core, (Kevin – Coldwater Boss Man – recently told me “It’s time to jump off that [people-pleasing] ship” to which his wife responded, “That reminds me of the Titanic.  That was such a tragedy.”  Kevin and Jen, I’m glad you’re here.) so I want to write what you want me to write, right?  See the problem?  It makes it difficult to blog not knowing what in the world to blog about.

So, in conclusion, I haven’t come to a conclusion.  I’ll just write, and if it’s interesting and informative (which, by the way, are two things that are difficult to capture at the same time), then it’s interesting and informative, and if it’s not, well, read C.S. Lewis.  He never bores.  Mere Christianity has been my book of choice lately, and I quote it almost as much as I quote Friends. It’s so relatable, and it just makes sense.  Wednesday night we started teaching on Apologetics (why we believe what we believe), and C.S. Lewis is one of the masters.  Favorite quote of the week:  “If you are a Christian you do not have to believe that all the other religions are simply wrong all through.  If you are an atheist you do have to believe that the main point in all the religions of the world is simply one huge mistake.  If you are a Christian, you are free to think that all those religions…contain at least some hint of truth…of course, being a Christian does mean thinking that where Christianity differs from other religions, Christianity is right and they are wrong.  As in arithmetic – there is only one right answer to a sum…but some of the wrong answers are much nearer being right than others.”

  1. I LOVE this!! 🙂 I laughed hard about the “corban can do this new thing with his tongue” comment. It’s so true! But I, being an aunt, am in there with the grandmas and want to know such things 🙂 In my own wanting to hear more from you on this blog opinion, I would love for you to write about all of those things! Including more pictures and updates on Corban! It is all wonderful! Miss you all and love you lots!

  2. Pastor Dave Says:
